Were you looking for…?

We are working hard on getting our Thanksgiving plans finalized!! The hardest part is planning the meal…what we are going to make, what appetizers to have (we like to try a couple of new things each holiday) and of course, which desserts to have! Thanksgiving is a big meal, so it takes a lot of big planning!

So far, it looks like we are going to try one new appetizer recipe. Once we have it perfected, we will add it to our large family recipes page. I’ve been trying hard to get David motivated to add more recipes, and hopefully he’ll get time to do that soon. In the meantime, since I’m the one who does the cooking for holiday meals (except the turkey, David fries that every year), I hope to have some new recipes soon.

David’s deviled eggs are delicious, and he really needs to get it put out here. :-)

OK, as far as the actual meal items are concerned, the girls and I are still deciding. We are kind of torn apart; we are considering a few variations on potatoes, such as casseroles and fancy alterations to mashed, but then again we REALLY love mashed potatoes with gravy. We really do have to decide soon, as I plan to go shopping for the rest of the meal items before the end of the week.

You may be wondering where we get our new recipes from; many of them are recipes from magazines or recipe apps on our phones that we try a few times, altering it each time to fit our family’s tastes. Others are things that we just throw together a bunch of ingredients because it sounds like they would go well together. These types of recipes usually take a few times (OK, several LOL) to perfect, but are often our favorites.

The worst part of this is that our 30 Day Challenge with Jillian Michaels ends on Thanksgiving day. Not an optimal day to end on, I don’t think! I may just have to add an extra workout on my final day…think of all that food I’m going to be eating!! Yikes! But, Kristina and I will be steadily working out between now and then, and will share our final measurements and pictures on the day after Thanksgiving.

I’m actually looking forward to the Thanksgiving weekend. We have the delicious food on Thursday, the holiday shopping on Friday (not sure if we’ll be doing that or not) then, as our family tradition dictates, we will be going on Saturday to get our Christmas tree!  Sunday is a wonderful day at church, then an afternoon of decorating the tree (unless we do that Saturday night, not sure yet). The only thing we haven’t figured out yet is where we are going to put the tree…we are still in this awful tiny house, only now we have more (and bigger!) furniture! I’m sure we will figure it out though.

What items are you adding to your Thanksgiving menu this year? Do you have any special holiday traditions that you look forward to each year? Share them in the comments below!
