Cooking with kids can be a fun and rewarding experience. There are many benefits to cooking with your children, including:
- kids are often more likely to try new foods if they help prepare them;
- meal preparation is a great way to give your child some practical math lessons!
- cooking is a great way to spend some one on one time with your kids;
- create memories by making Christmas cookies, Thanksgiving pies, or fun shaped pancakes;
- keep your family heritage alive by teaching your kids family recipes
Children like to feel important. Cooking with Mommy or Daddy gives them a sense of accomplishment and pride. Give your child their own chef hat, apron, and even some cooking tools designed especially for them. You can really boost their self-confidence by allowing them to help prepare meals, especially with their very own tools and utensils.
If you have younger children, you can get them involved with cooking too. If you have the room, set your little ones up with some Play-Doh on an extra counter or table. They have pretend kitchen implements specifically designed for use with Play-Doh, so they can “cook” too.
Most of all, cooking with kids provides them with tons of wonderful memories. Some of my favorite memories are cooking with my mom, my grandma and my aunts. So give your children some great memories by getting them some kids’ cooking implements, aprons and cookbooks.
