Cheesiest Macaroni and Cheese Ever!

One of our kids’ favorite meals is macaroni and cheese. We all used to love Kraft’s boxed version, until I started making it home made! Now it’s one of our favorite meals!

Processed, boxed foods used to taste halfway decent to us. Well, OK, that’s a little bit of a lie…they used to taste good! Until we started reverting back to “real food” that is…now none of them taste good at all. Therefore, we try to make good old fashioned home cooked meals whenever we can.

This recipe for home made macaroni and cheese is sure to be a hit with everyone in your family, even the pickiest of your kids. Make it your own by changing cheese types, maybe adding some vegetables (broccoli wouldn’t be bad!) or changing out the types of pasta used.

If you use this recipe and make changes to suit your family, I’d love to hear about it! Please share in the comments below.

Instructions
  1. Cook macaroni per package instructions. Strain, rinse and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 450.
  3. Put milk and butter in large saucepan; cook over med-high heat until butter is melted. Stir in some flour until it thickens a little (don't thicken it too much, because the cheese will thicken it up a lot as well). Add salt and pepper to taste. Add grated cheese and stir frequently until melted.
  4. While waiting for the cheese to melt, spread the macaroni between 2 9-1/2" x 11" pans. Distribute the ham between the pans as well.
  5. Using a ladle, spoon the cheese sauce over each pan, making sure to get it all the way through the macaroni.
  6. Sprinkle the Ritz crumbs over the top of each pan. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
