We had so much fun at our Just Dance 3 House Party! I have a few Kinect games that were put out by Ubisoft, and as a result, am registered to receive updates and notifications via email from them. A few weeks ago, I received an email inviting me to host a Kinect party with the new game Just Dance 3. In exchange, I was given a free copy of the game Just Dance 3, and the game Just Dance Kids 2.

We are working hard on getting our Thanksgiving plans finalized!! The hardest part is planning the meal…what we are going to make, what appetizers to have (we like to try a couple of new things each holiday) and of course, which desserts to have! Thanksgiving is a big meal, so it takes a lot of big planning!

I’m now on Day 9 of my 30 day challenge. I’m not sure if my body is undergoing any changes, but I can tell you that I feel great! I have noticed so many benefits from doing this workout that I can’t imagine NOT doing it. I first noticed these benefits on our day of rest, which was Tuesday. I was unproductive, tired, and generally unmotivated all day. Kristina was feeling the same way. We were texting each other throughout the day, and both of us had an off day. Well, I reckon I would get in trouble if I didn’t post the Halloween pics…we had fun. After church Sunday, we got the kids dressed up and went to Seaworld. That didn’t go well; the older 2 kids were a little disappointed because the younger 3 REFUSED to go in the Fright Zone. We ended up talking Amber into it, but put Dakota & Bella in the wagon with a phone and headphones watching a movie, and covered them up with Ashley’s jacket. LOL

Well…we have gained a lot of weight this year! It’s time to get it off!! Last year I still wasn’t where I wanted to be, yet I was about 25 lbs lighter. SAD. So, it’s time to do something about it. With that in mind, we’ve decided to do a 30 day challenge using Jillian Michaels work out DVDs. My friend Kristina & I, even though we live over 2,000 miles apart, have decided to take on this challenge together. Read the rest of this entry »

We have been looking for a new church home. We absolutely LOVE the church we had been going to, but unfortunately, it’s just too far away, especially since David’s work is so on-again/off-again. Part of the problem is also that I’m trying to make friends, and when everyone at church lives 30 miles away, I can’t make any plans to get together with anyone! We have been trying to move to the other side of town with no luck. :-(

We tried another church last Sunday, but none of us were happy there. I loved the message, enjoyed the service itself, but there was no “welcome home” feeling that we got from our regular church. We are really looking for that great christian community feeling. You know, the one that makes you feel like you’re part of a loving family as soon as you walk in the door!

At the church we went to last Sunday, we felt invisible. Nobody bothered to introduce themselves, and if we didn’t have children, no one would have spoken to us at all, except the greeter at the door. Nobody was rude, it just felt like we were but a drop in a sea of faces.

I don’t expect every church to be exactly like Grace San Antonio, but it would be nice to find one that we feel like we belong in!

This coming Sunday, we are trying another church here on our side of town. Hopefully this one will please everybody. I’m really hoping so, because they have a lot going on; I would be able to be active and get to know people! That was the worst thing about when we went to Grace San Antonio. I tried signing up for this Bible study, and was really enjoying it, too. But it got to be too much, going over on that side of town so often, so I ended up unable to finish the Bible study. :-( I felt really bad…not only because I was missing out on a great study, but also because I felt like I was letting the organizer down.

That’s only one reason that I’m hoping we can find a great church on this side of town. I’m thinking that this church we plan to try out on Sunday is going to be too big for our tastes, but we will see…

I’m telling you…every time I log onto here, I find at least 50-100 comments…unfortunately, NONE of them are ever actual comments on anything I’ve written. It’s just so annoying, especially since I’m a freelance SEO consultant. Blog comments are a great way to get the word out about your site, yes, but not spammy nonsense unrelated comments! UGH! They make a site look unprofessional and definitely no one that I want to do business with! I’ve got half a mind to email the sites…because a lot of these people are hiring SEO “professionals” at cheap prices…and this is the result.

What do you do about spam comments? Don’t they just make you ANGRY?!?! It’s driving me insane. Now I know why so many sites require you to log in or register in order to comment on posts. How sad. :-(

Being a parent isn’t easy. Being a work-at-home, homeschooling mom of 5 kids is definitely not easy. I have a lot on my plate, as all mothers do. But I don’t drop my children off at a daycare, they don’t go to school for 6 hours a day, and I don’t have a maid. It also means that I don’t get a break. And, since I don’t have family within 1,000 miles, I don’t have anyone to take the kids for a few hours.

My point is that no matter what our circumstances are, being a parent is just plain HARD. We have our joys, we have our hardships, and we all have nights where we cry and worry over our children.

We have 5 of the most wonderful children in this country. However, lately we have realized that our children are getting out of control. Not out of control in the sense that they talk back to us, or scream “I hate you” or anything like that. But they haven’t been doing their chores, they aren’t listening to us, and school work is being neglected. Yet they expect us to take them to their extracurricular activities, no questions asked.

Another problem we realized is that we were giving in too much…we would say something like “if you don’t change your behaviour, you aren’t going to [insert activity here]“. But after reading The Well-Behaved Child, we realized that this wasn’t the right approach. Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought of it in this way at all.

Basically, the author, John Rosemond, states that by doing what we’ve been doing, we don’t make the children accountable for their actions. All they have to do is behave for a set period of time to ensure that they will be able to go to their activity! That doesn’t make any long-lasting changes in their behavior at all.

The basic premise of the entire book is that we need to start putting the monkey on our child’s back, rather than ours. Our children are never going to learn accountability and accept responsibility for their own actions unless we start teaching them now. I truly recommend this book for all parents. This guy has some valid ideas on how to raise productive and responsible children. :-) So, check it out and let me know what you think!
